The fewer constraints imposed on funds, the more effectively they can be utilized. While federal and state-level constraints were inevitable, programs that allowed for broader usage demonstrated greater efficacy. The ARPA funds came with restrictions at multiple levels that often limited child care business owners’ ability to use the money effectively. Funds earmarked only for equipment upgrades or building repairs, for example, couldn’t be used to pay staff overtime or for temporary help to implement projects.

Change was not announced or displayed in the main board at the old gate. When we landed we had to wait 20 minutes because there was another plane at the assigned gate. We have a general list of items you or your loved one will need during the treatment stay. It brings a huge amount of relief knowing that families do not have to wait for our scheduled volunteer van service to get a ride to or from the hospital, or even worse, have to cross Watertown Plank Road in front of our building — many times in the dark with significant traffic. As we celebrate our 30th year of Ronald McDonald House serving families with critically ill or injured children, the completion of the pedestrian sky bridge over Watertown Plank Road signifies a great achievement. In order to make your stay at Children's Wisconsin as easy as possible, we created a list of hotels, motels, and other options to help out-of-town families plan where to stay in Milwaukee.

Where to Stay

Please make plans for the care of your other children before coming to the hospital. One adult may stay overnight with their child in the hospital. A single sleeper couch is in most patient rooms for one parent or grandparent to stay. You will need to bring your own personal care items and sleepwear.

History & Photo Gallery

Wilton was a Canadian immigrant who began his life in America in NY around 1850, where he met his life-long business partner, Philo Bradley. Wilton & Bradley moved to what is now Harrisonburg in the 1860’s to begin their lives as successful entrepreneurs. In a small rural farming town, Wilton opened up a much-needed hardware store, and utilized his fantastic manufacturing connections in Baltimore and NY to bring modern goods to the valley. He was able to provide farm equipment, housing goods, and many other items that were previously out of reach. With a successful hardware store, Wilton began to invest his money in other businesses, loaning out his earnings in careful planned (mostly successful) business endeavors. Eventually, Wilton would hold rank as the President of the First National Bank, chairmen of the local hospital board, inspector of the county jail, founder of the Young Men’s Christian Association, Treasurer for the Elk’s Lodge, and much more.

We recommend artists view the gallery spaces below for aesthetic and measurement information. The Wilton came under new ownership in the 2000’s by Anne Marie, Mark, and Sean; three JMU graduates and fans of the Wilton. They successfully brought the Wilton out of its 80’s/90’s phase by diversifying our menu, style of service, and redecorating. Instead of pink or dark purple carpeting from the 80’s, the new owners put in a simple beige carpet, updated the artwork for a more modern feel, and brought in “new” antiques to the home. In this time, our staff has grown and changed with us, bringing with them decades of experience and personal flare, culminating in exquisite cocktails and cuisine. Joshua House is co-located with 649 Lofts that encompasses 54 permanent supportive housing units and services to formerly unhoused individuals, including veterans.

But it takes a special kind of philistine to purchase a designated property in an historic district and then proceed to wreck it so that it cancels the Mills Act contract on the house that has been in place since 1998. In roughly 1986, the home was purchased by Craig & Burt Moore, who spent two years renovating the home into what is now known as The Joshua Wilton House. The inn on the second story opened first, then the restaurant shortly after. Despite changing ownerships over the decades, the Wilton House has remained a staple for quality food, creative cocktails, and cherished history. Additional funding was provided by The Ahmanson Foundation, Health Net, Kaiser Permanente, W.M. Keck Foundation, Lawrence Ng Family Foundation, The Ralph M. Further investigation revealed that the majority of the historic interior had been brought down to the 100-year-old studs, causing an irreparable loss of historic fabric, a monument plundered. This gallery has images of our NYE menu items, as well as specials and cocktails from the end of the year. As a reminder, all rooms are located on the second story, meaning all guests must be able to walk up a full flight of steps.

Another twist in the story is that the new owner of the property is the 19-year-old K-pop singer Samuel Arrendondo, aka Punch of the hip hop duo 1Punch and now known simply as Samuel. Apparently, Mr. Arrendondo wanted the cachet of living in an historic house in an historic district, but not the atmosphere of a historic interior. He and his mother Ms. Kyung Ju Kim, as well as a Mr. Roy Yun, are the addressees of a letter sent by the City of Los Angeles Office of Historic Resources giving 30 days notice to correct the violations and the unauthorized demolitions or face the cancellation of the Mills Act contract. Anne Marie, Mark, and Sean parted ways after a decade in business together (opening and managing other restaurants in TX and SC). The Wilton was then purchased by Jeff Hill, Joe Irvin, and Rodney Eagle in 2015, when it experienced a bit of a renaissance. The new owners had decades of experience in hospitality, and had a wonderful vision for the Wilton.

Weddings: 1980’s-90’s

They opened the inn first while the restaurant staff was hired and the menu established. The grand opening was in May of 1988, on the 100th anniversary of the home being built in 1888. We’ve updated each room to have modern amenities, all while maintaining the home’s Victorian character.

Actually, this same deep red was used in the 1960’s when the home was a private residence. The walls were beige and a tad boring in the 2000’s, so the new owners selected a slate-green tone for the dining rooms, dark green for the bar, dark red in two dining rooms, and installed hardwood floors in the sunrooms. All five of our inn rooms also received new wood floors, which replaced the beige carpets.

They brought in a diverse team of chefs, began serving Brunch and Afternoon Tea, and once again updated the menu and service style to better reflect Harrisonburg’s needs. Jeff, Joe, and Rodney also owned and operated the Local Chop and Grill House since 2009; which gave the Wilton a “sister-restaurant” to exchange ideas with, share staff, and coordinate large events. Instead of the busy, purple zebra carpet, the owners selected a beautiful deep red carpet for the home.

It is also a rare example of a Queen Anne Victorian home in the south (Wilton fell in love with the style while living in New York). After Wilton’s passing, the Shenk family owned the home for years, it became a boarding house, then apartments, then played host to the TKE Fraternity for just over a decade. This historic bedroom is bathed in warm evening light, overlooking sunsets from the front yard. The Tea room is painted in faded pink and dark brown earth tones (Irish Tea and Turkish Coffee) which add to the coziness of this room. An antique tea cart and vintage books adorn the room, alongside local artwork, a smart TV, and writing desk.

The walls are adorned with gold accents, including framed blueprints and local artwork. Sit back and relax in two comfortably chairs, sip some wine, and bask in the history around you. The closet, painted midnight orchid, offers additional storage with gold accent hooks. It replaces LACHC’s original location of 20 years on Winston Street behind the LA Mission. Instead of five queen beds in the home, the three largest rooms each received a king size bed and updated decor. In addition, all five rooms were updated to have smart tv’s in them, which allows guests to access Hulu, Netflix, Spotify, and much more during their stay.

There is even an original piece of Blue Stone carved in 1880 to form the foundation of the home. It was removed during renovations in 1986, so we placed it in this room for guests to enjoy! Formerly known as “The Rose Room”, The Stone Room was renovated in 2023, but we wanted to save a section of wallpaper to remember its 35 year history as The Rose Room. The Joshua Wilton House can be divided into two separate gallery spaces, allowing us to feature two artists at once. One artist can also occupy the entire gallery should they have enough work to fill the space.

Welcome to the New Joshua House!

We purposefully designed the rooms so that the TVs are not the main focal point, but are still comfortable to view while relaxing in bed. All rooms were completed with desks as well, which gives each room a designated workspace if need be. After the TKE fraternity moved to another building closer to campus, the home spent roughly two years undergoing heavy renovations. The commercial kitchen was added to the back of the home, and the second story was renovated so that each of the five bedrooms could have their own private bathrooms (thus, making it an inn-space).

Mills Act contracts significantly reduce the property tax burden on owners of designated properties — to incentivize and underwrite preservation. Breaking the contract through unapproved alterations can lead to the loss of the tax benefit and a 12.5 percent penalty fee on the fair market value of the property, in this case a penalty of nearly $250,000! Well, the reality turned out to be something different, as concerned neighbors in early April began to see demolition activity removing hardwood floors, mahogany details etc.

Adding color to the home gave each room a different atmosphere and draws the attention of guests, especially compared to the “decade of beige” that came before. After mastering business in an expanding town, Wilton had his home built beginning in 1880, with construction completed in 1888. It was one of the first homes wired for electricity, which over time, has given Wilton credit for “bringing electricity” to the valley.

One of the injured CMPD officers was in “very critical” condition Monday evening, Jennings said at a news conference. — Four law enforcement officers, including a deputy U.S. marshal, were killed Monday afternoon while serving a warrant in North Carolina, WSOC-TV reported. Fall is also an excellent time to visit, with fewer visitors, and temperatures ranging from highs in the low 80s F in September to upper 50s F in November.

Located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina and in the southern part of the state, Charlotte has a humid, continental climate. Since then, police interventions on several campuses, including in some of America’s largest cities, have led to more than 1,600 arrests. Authorities said the shooting, which occurred in the 5000 block of Galway Drive, took place as the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was attempting to serve a warrant. Many roads are closed for faster ambulance transport. Please cooperate with authorities,” the department said on X.

The man shot at the officers as they approached, and they returned fire, the chief said. After the gunman fell, additional shots were fired from inside the home. Hughes was wanted on a warrant for possession of a firearm by a felon, officials said. Authorities continued Tuesday to gather evidence from the scene of the shooting. The chief said he expected that more “well over 100 rounds” will be collected from the house. Police have already recovered an AR-15 rifle, a 40-caliber handgun and magazines and ammo for each, he said.

One of the alleged shooting suspects was found dead inside the house, authorities said. Two other occupants inside the home were being questioned. The subject of the warrant died in the home’s front yard.

“Yesterday, four brave law enforcement officers — including a Deputy U.S. Marshal — were killed in Charlotte, North Carolina in the line of duty. They are heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm’s way to protect us,” Biden wrote in a social media post. They have been placed on administrative leave as authorities investigate the shooting in line with standard procedures, Jennings said. Owners Hunt and Katie Edwards spent much of 2023 seeing their proposal to transform the place into an inn and venue through the town’s planning process. The project received pushback from neighbors as well as the Select Board. Others commented on the price, saying it must be relatively low because it is located in Maine. The home is located in York County, where the median home sales price is $428,640, according to previous USA TODAY reporting. Buyers scooped up 888 homes in March, an 3.5 percent increase compared with the 858 sold in March 2023, according to the Maine Association of Realtors.

The highest median home price for the period was in Cumberland County, where it reached $533,500. Like in Maine, the median sales prices for homes have been rising nationally and in the Northeast. Nationally they are up 4.7 percent to $397,000, while for the Northeast broadly they have risen 9.9 percent to $434,600.

York County

Meanwhile, the median sales price for a Maine home rose nearly 12.6 percent to $380,000, compared with $337,500 in March 2023. Aroostook had the lowest median home price overall ($155,000). One of the sources of pushback was a newly formed group called The Friends of the Wedding Cake House. The group hired an attorney, who attended public meetings and pressed the argument that an inn and venue at the site would generate too much noise, traffic, and safety concerns. They also said it would set a precedent for other private properties on Summer Street to turn commercial and would drastically alter the character of the neighborhood. On the sales front, Androscoggin County saw the largest sales bump over that three-month period, increasing 39.7 percent.

Repositioning Cruises 2024

what is a repositioning cruise

Repositioning cruises can take you places you probably never considered going, like Takoradi, Ghana or Russia's wild Kamchatka Peninsula. The Norwegian Breakaway takes cruisers on a 14-night journey from Copenhagen to New York in October, with stops in Iceland and the Azores (from $900). Regent Seven Seas's itinerary on the Explorer from Lisbon to Cape Town in November makes 12 stops along the West African coast over the course of 24 nights (from $17,300).

Timing Your Voyage

Repositioning cruises appeal to a wide range of travelers, offering value for money, an extended time at sea, and the chance to explore unique and off-the-beaten-path destinations. So, whether you’re a budget-conscious traveler seeking a great deal or an adventure seeker looking to discover new horizons, a repositioning cruise can be the perfect choice for your next travel adventure. When booking a repositioning cruise, it’s important to consider factors such as itinerary, cabin selection, and budget to ensure the best possible experience. Researching multiple cruise lines, being flexible with dates, and planning for long flights are essential.

Browse Repositioning Cruise Itineraries

This social dimension adds a layer of richness to the journey, often leading to lifelong friendships and memorable connections. Repositioning cruises are designed for travellers who cherish the journey as much as they do the destination. As these cruises generally have more days at sea than standard cruises, passengers have more time to fully enjoy the range of amenities and facilities onboard the cruise ship.

Europe to Florida

what is a repositioning cruise

Instead, these cruises were composed of closed-circuit itineraries with amenities and activities that appealed to a wide audience, just as most cruises still are today. We embarked on the sparkling brand-new ship in Europe and took it on a transatlantic voyage to New York City. During April, seasonal repositioning cruises are usually headed to Europe – not away from Europe. So this was an unusual circumstance that provided us with a great opportunity to be among the first passengers to experience this brand-new 5-star ship. Repositioning cruises are known for having a greater-than-average number of days spent at sea, but it's not as if you never get off the ship.

Other Repositioning Itineraries

Two weeks aboard a ship, with seven days or more at sea, is a big commitment unless you already know you enjoy the cruising lifestyle. For example, you can find transatlantic repositioning cruises that sail from a variety of destinations in the Mediterranean to Florida or the Caribbean, sometimes stopping by the Canary Islands or the Azores. Some ships may also reposition from Southern Europe to countries in South America, such as Brazil or Argentina. Yes, repositioning cruises are often more affordable compared to standard sailings. The key reason lies in their unique nature – with more sea days and specific characteristics that might not appeal to everyone. The length of a repositioning cruise is notably longer due to the vast distances covered.

For example, Alaska’s cruise season runs from May to September, which means that during the off-season months, the ship will be sailing around another region of the world. Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Edge will relocate from its base in Sydney on April 14, 2025. Its ultimate destination is Vancouver, where it will be stationed for a series of Alaska voyages. On its way, it will take passengers on a 17-night trip to experience the beauty of French Polynesia before concluding the sailing in Honolulu. Port calls include Paihia and Auckland in New Zealand and Raiatea, Papeete and Moorea in French Polynesia.

Navigating the Sea of Cruise Travel

Repositioning cruises range in length, potentially lasting a week, a month, or even longer, depending on the specific route. Despite the variety in duration, they all offer a unique and extended sea journey often at a lower cost than traditional cruises. While repositioning cruises offer a unique travel experience, it’s important to note that they may not be suitable for all travelers. If you are someone who enjoys frequent port stops and exploring different destinations on a short timeframe, a repositioning cruise may not be the ideal choice for you.

You shouldn’t commit to two weeks aboard a ship unless you already know you enjoy the cruising lifestyle. For a transatlantic repositioning cruise, you could be at sea for seven days or more. The main reason cruise aficionados love repositioning cruises is because they’re cheap. Fares may be half the cost of a typical cruise because cruise lines just want to offset the cost of moving the ship from port to port.1 There are less tangible benefits, too. The crew is often beginning their season at sea, so they’ll be refreshed and even friendlier than usual. And if your idea of heaven is a gleaming, pristine ship, you may be able to find a repositioning cruise in which a brand-new vessel is making the journey from the shipyard to its home port.

On most cruise lines there will be extra activities happening onboard during sea days to keep guests entertained. When sailing a repositioning cruise, cruise ships will often be sailing at less than full capacity. Repositioning itineraries usually come with extra costs – such as public transport or flights – which makes repositioning cruises less desirable and therefore cheaper. The most common repositioning cruises happen in Spring and Autumn/Fall. Almost all cruise lines and ships will reposition their ships to make the best of the weather.

Now, when packing for a 7-day cruise, consider the variety of activities and climates you’ll encounter, ensuring your wardrobe is as adaptable as your itinerary. One of the most compelling aspects of repositioning cruises is the unparalleled value they offer. Cruise lines need to relocate their ships regardless of whether they're filled with passengers, providing a strong incentive to offer these trips at discounted prices. This makes repositioning cruises an exceptional option for budget-conscious travellers or those seeking to maximize the value of their vacation dollars.

This is because the one-way, sea day-heavy itineraries are less desirable to the majority of cruisers, and they take place during slower travel seasons. When you book a repositioning cruise, you'll likely be on board for at least two weeks, allowing enough time for the ship to sail between where it's currently based and its new home port. Sometimes the voyage can be even longer, and it's likely you won't have more than five or six port stops during that time. Due to increased cruise itineraries in the Middle East and Asia over the last decade, you might also find a repositioning cruise departing or returning to either of those regions.

"I've had clients use seasonal, five-day Hawaii to Vancouver repositioning cruises in the spring to avoid taking a red-eye back to the U.S.," she says. Repositioning cruises do usually have more sea days than a regular cruise itinerary. But repositioning cruises also usually make many stops throughout the voyage, for passengers to get off the ship and explore. Repositioning cruises are typically offered at a discounted rate and can be an affordable way to travel between different regions or continents.

If you like to explore, ensure to do research on your ports before you embark on your repositioning cruise. Or download travel articles and ebooks about the destinations to read during sea days. The average transatlantic repositioning cruise takes about two weeks, while transpacific cruises and other routes can take three weeks or even longer. The longest repositioning cruise we’ve taken was 30 days, from Italy to South Africa. Depending on the route, you may also cross the Equator, hence immediately going from fall to spring or vice versa. Or you can cross the International Dateline, in which you lose or gain an entire day.

And if that all isn’t enough, there are even more social activities organized by passengers on sites such as CruiseCritic. During one of our first repositioning cruises, we participated in a multi-day Amazing Race-style competition organized by fellow passengers, which turned out to be a highlight of that two-week voyage. If needing to travel long distances between continents, repositioning cruises can be a great alternative to air travel. Repositioning cruises are often priced about the same as, sometimes even less than, a coach ticket on a cramped redeye flight between the same locations. Yet to trace the origins of modern repositioning cruises, we need to go back to the 1960s. This is when regular long-distance commercial flights became more commonplace, and demand for ocean travel decreased.

Though some ships spend the entire year sailing the same itineraries, many relocate to follow the sun. Likewise, in spring many ships, having spent winter in the Caribbean and South America, head back to Britain via the Azores, Canary Islands and Iberian Peninsula. In either case, Royal Caribbean offers these sailings to guests as an opportunity to experience a cruise ship with a very unique itinerary. Most repositioning cruises are done when a ship moves from one region of the world to another, such as North America to Australia, or Europe to North America.

Cameron Robbins case: Coast Guard calls off search for recent graduate

kid that jumped off cruise ship

The International Shark Attack File, a database of all known shark attacks, shows that only 32 shark attacks have been reported in the Bahamas since 1949. This is the highest figure in the region, with Cuba in second with 13 and Puerto Rico in third with 11. At one point, the person in the water appears to turn and swim in the opposite direction of the lifesaver ring that was thrown overboard. Robbins disappeared three days after his graduation from University Laboratory School. The party ship remained in the area for several hours while the crew looked for Robbins.

Vid Shows Chaos After Teen Jumps from Cruise

"The Bahamas government has called off the rescue for Cameron and we are returning to Baton Rouge," the family said in a statement. The ship was near Athol Island an uninhabited island located northeast of Nassau, according to WBRZ. Videos show Robbins jumping from the boat and swimming with a life preserver nearby. The US Coast Guard and local Bahaman authorities spent days looking for Robbins before calling off their search last week after scouring more than 325 square miles of ocean. While not confirmed by the United States Coast Guard press release, Royal Bahamas Defence Force Commodore Raymond King spoke to the media during the days of the search about the possibility of a shark attack. The islands are divided between Britain and the U.S., and each has its own personality.

Florida man believes son is alive after jumping off cruise ship: report

Authorities officially designated Robbins as "lost at sea," which is the same as a death certificate, and a memorial service for Robbins will be held Sunday at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. The video appears to show a shadowy object in the water move toward the recent high school grad, who was swimming toward a life preserver before changing direction. Experts have told Fox News Digital there is a vast array of marine life, including dolphins, tiger sharks and bull sharks in those waters that feed off the scraps from the boats. "Your vision, judgment, everything is impaired and I can tell you that area, for the individual who reportedly jumped over, it is an area that is really shark-infested as well.

View All Cruises to the Virgin Islands

According to a CLIA report, only 28.2% of passengers who fell overboard between 2009 and 2019 were successfully rescued. In December, an MSC Cruises passenger jumped from one of its ships while sailing from Europe to South America. The Liberty of the Seas departed from South Florida and was 57 miles from Great Inagua in The Bahamas when the passenger went overboard.

Robbins was last seen splashing in the dark, “shark-infested” waters a few feet from the boat, before vanishing from view. According to witnesses, the teen — who was apparently acting on a dare — took a plunge off a party cruise into the ocean near Athol Island at night. The Blackbeard’s Revenge, which is designed to resemble a pirate ship, remained in the area for several hours while the crew attempted to look for Robbins.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating claims that Robbins jumped overboard as part of a dare, according to WBRZ. “Words fall short of expressing the worry our entire school community is feeling. Extra counselors will be available on campus to speak with students and faculty who are struggling to process this news.

Coast Guard, Royal Bahamas Defence Force and United Cajun Navy searched the waters until about 3 a.m. Speculation grew so large that in an interview with Fox News, a spokesperson for the United Cajun Navy addressed the rumors, saying that Robbins’ family had asked rescuers to shut the theory down. #cameronrobbins #fyp I know they were drunk and probably didnt grasp the severity of the situation but to just record and say bye bye knowing he waw struggling breaks my heart. A chaotic video taken moments after the jump also shows the recent graduate ignoring onlookers’ pleas to grab a buoy. People on the cruise ship begin to shout and call for the man to go to the lifesaver, only for someone to remark that the man is no longer visible.
